Our esteemed colleague and friend Dr Libby Brateman, Professor Emeritus, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Dr Brateman was the first Diagnostic Medical Physicist to join Radiology in the 1980s, laying out a path that many have followed in the field of medical physics – some of the physicists in the division were actually trained by her. She was instrumental in the development of our diagnostic imaging medical physics residency program and became the founding director, serving in the role from 2011 until her retirement in 2016. Her commitment and dedication to the program, both in life and in death, is unsurpassed and invaluable to its inevitable long-term success. Her strive for excellence in clinical physics is remembered by many. She will be missed as a person foremost and also as a scientist.
DIMPR Funding by Dr Brateman
It is our great honor to announce that the Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics Residency Program (UF DIMPR) has been bequeathed generous funding by Dr Libby Brateman.
The funding will be used to support non-salaried DIMPR resident activities (clinically-relevant research and conferences). This will ensure that Dr Brateman’s legacy lives on in future generations of DIMPR residents.
We are greatly appreciative of Dr Brateman’s past direction and guidance. She dedicated her life to advancing medical physics knowledge and education. We are truly humbled by her continued support.
