Zach received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps in 2015 after 4 years of service as an automotive maintenance technician. During his enlistment, he decided to pursue a career as a medical physicist.
He attended Western Illinois University, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in physics. His research interests were materials and optics. His research group synthesized borate glasses doped with rare-earth ions to study the changes in the amorphous structure of glass matrices. After graduation, he worked as a design engineer in both the electrical utility and consumer products industry, but is excited to return to his plan to study medical physics.
